TAG Matter Project
For my TAG students only: In this project, students create an "movie" project about the properties of matter that other classes can use in the future. First, students read textbook chapter and use website links about the properties of matter. Next, they work in groups of three to four students to plan a three- to five-minute Movie project that includes the following topics: mass/volume/density, liquids/solids/gases/plasmas, phase changes: freezing/melting, vaporization/ condensation, and sublimation, chemical changes, physical properties, chemical properties and elements/compounds/mixtures. They complete a storyboard for their movie with important facts and a demonstration lab. After the teacher approves the storyboard, students use a digital video camera to film the class lab experiments as well as other scenes that demonstrate the topics to be covered. They then edit the video clips, import music, add titles, transitions, and effects, and record narration to produce their finished movie. They share their movies with the whole class and with other science classes. Students will be graded using this rubric.
